Event Notes: PRE-COURSE QUALIFICATIONS - NRA BASIC RIFLE INSTRUCTOR All Instructor Candidates must complete the written and pre-course qualifications prior to the start of class which is 1:00p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019 Please make an appointment with Virginia (989) 751-1030 for the shooting pre-course qualification. The written exams and information sheets can be completed on line by contacting Virginia Dall at (989) 751-1030. The exam will be sent on line from vmdall@oz.net. (Instructor Candidates may use their own .22 cal. rifle for Pre-Course qualification. Candidates using a Duncan's Outdoor Shop rifle for qualification must purchase the ammunition at Duncan's) Class includes: All NRA materials, meals during class hours, guns and ammunition used during the Rifle Instructor Course. Below are the Pre-Course Requirements for the Basic Rifle Instructor Course 1. Complete the Instructor Candidate Questionnaire 2. Receiving 90% or better on the Basic Rifle Shooting Course Student Exam. 3. Complete the Pre-Course Qualifications (Hands on activities) NOTE: The NRA hands on Pre-Course Qualifications must be passed with a score of 80 or better out of a possible 100 points. Minimum passing requirements must also be met in each phase A. Demonstrate safe gun handling. This will include keeping the rifles pointed in a safe direction at all times, not sweeping one's body or sweeping others and keeping finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. B. Using dummy ammunition, instructor candidates must load and unload a bolt-action rifle, lever action rifle, and a semi-automatic rifle. C. Demonstrate how to clear common rifle stoppages using a semi-automatic rifle. (Failure to fire and double feed) D. Demonstrate shooting skills: Candidate will choose one type of rifle for qualification shooting. The rifle must have front and rear sights. Telescopic sights, riflescopes, or aiming devices are NOT allowed. Candidates will shoot 10 shots from each of three positions: bench rest, prone and standing. Depending on candidate's choice of rifles, the shooting will be done using a 4.5 inch circle at 25 yards &/or a 3 inch circle at 50 ft. A fresh target will be used for each position. All shots must be touching or in the circle to count as a hit. Two requalification shoots are allowed within any 24 hour period. E. Alternatively, candidates may skip the ?demonstrate? qualifications (#3A-D) by: Providing documented proof of NRA Competitive Rifle Classification as a Sharpshooter or better or a certification as an NRA LEAD Patrol Rifle or Precision Rifle Instructor
